Island

Island by Clandestine Laboratories is a fragrance for women and men. This is a new fragrance. Island was launched in 2026. The nose behind this fragrance is Mark Sage. The fragrance features Juniper, Yuzu, White Flowers, Pepper, Blue Lotus, Hiba, Tolu Balsam, Incense, Tobacco, Ambergris, Oakmoss, Vanilla and White Musk. Island has a cool-spicy incense vibe but the island it refers to isn’t tropical, it’s Manhattan. Island was intended to portray NYC at night, specifically the experience of a solitary cab ride home with lights and bridges drifting past against the night sky. Island is another early fragrance (2012) recently reconsidered. It has held up well over time and seem more impressive in hindsight, considering it was completed fairly early in my journey to becoming a perfumer. At the time it was intended to be somewhat commercial and ‘contemporary’ but done in my own style. It fails spectacularly in that respect but as some have pointed out the topnote captures the intensity of a freshly snuffed-out cigarette, thanks to a funky-sharp juniper, pepper and tobacco accord. It’s also quite strong and performs well into the drydown, while also being original and good.
