Hesperides

Hesperides by Olfactum is a Citrus fragrance for women and men. Hesperides was launched in 2021. The nose behind this fragrance is Barry Southers. The fragrance features Benzoin, Bergamot, Black Spruce, Cypress, Cassis, Coriander, Grapefruit, Italian Mandarin, Hemlock, Oakmoss, Orange Blossom, Patchouli and White Musk. According to which ancient Greek legend you subscribe to, Hesperides was either the name of a garden housed with sacred golden apples, or the group of supernatural beings charged to watch over them. Regardless, the lore of the Hesperides is still alive and well. Some follow the line of thought that "golden apples" were actually oranges. We took that idea and ran with it. This tribute to the divine trio of the sunset is sunny, bright, zesty, green and citrusy. Hesperides opens with Zesty Grapefruit. I mean Citrus spray Zesty. I pick up the spray, the juicy fruit and the peel. As the Grapefruit settles it aligns with Bergamot and Mandarin. There’s also a light Orange Blossom presence as if it’s been caught on a gentle breeze. In the heart the Citrus backs off giving way to Woodiness. It’s at this point that the composition mimics a Grapefruit Orchard. My guess is that the Woodiness is coming from a mix of Patchouli and Cassis, with Coriander and Oak Moss offering a touch of texture. There’s not a big transition to the drydown. It basically softens through the rest of the wearing, forming this nice, fluffy, airy Lemon treat. I think the reason I’m so drawn to this fragrance is because it feels like a slice of life and I have a real appreciation for fragrances that are able to do that. Who wouldn’t like to wear a Fragrance that transports them to a lovely Citrus Orchard on a sunny day? My hats off to Barry for creating another special one.
