Top notes are Violet Leaf and Davana; middle notes are Tobacco, Osmanthus, Oud and Hay; base notes are Vanilla, Benzoin and Peru Balsam. The first whiff of an elder’s cigarette pack in childhood captivated me: a handful of dried apricots, raisins and red dates, just like a solid wash of golden amber. Many don’t smoke, yet few dislike the scent of tobacco. Perhaps its lethality adds a layer of forbidden allure. This memory stirred by the Proustian effect is a gift for all tobacco lovers. Though natural tobacco absolute isn’t used, what we recreated echoes Winnie Hsin’s Scent - lingeringly ambiguous, words left unsaid. The cigarette lit beneath plane trees on late autumn nights starts this scent tale.
